OPEN STUDIO Day
March 29/25   11am-3pm
$45 minimum charge

Have you ever wondered "what's all the stink about ALCOHOL INK?" Well, this is your opportunity to find out and I promise it's an amazing medium to explore. Alcohol ink is an acid-free, vividly-colored, alcohol-based dye that is liquid, translucent and fast drying. It is best used on non-porous surfaces (e.g. ceramics, synthetic papers, glass, etc).

Versatile, unpredictable, mesmerizing, relaxing and affordable! Alcohol ink art spans across talent levels and experience because it's not really a medium that lends itself well to being controlled - which is why is perfect for beginners and established artists alike. There are always happy accidents that delight and surprise. No matter what you think of your creativity, everyone will make something beautiful during this workshop; but keep in mind that creating art is not about producing a product rather it's about enjoying and learning through the process of unexpected discoveries !

This introductory class with alcohol ink is ABSTRACT not conceptual so we will not be focusing on how to paint landscapes or specific objects with the ink, just how to mix and move colours in various techniques that you can further experiment with on your own. Not to say that you won't be discovering some amazing backgrounds magically appearing as you move the ink on your paper or items that look like florals etc.!

Enjoy the simple process of dripping ink onto synthetic paper and ceramic tiles, tilt and swirl it, blow it with a straw for a dazzling effect, feather it, blend it with metallic mixatives for a rich shimmer, add texture by using felt, spritzing with spray bottles, etc.

E ach of you has a LARGE pre-ordered 12" solid baltic birch initial that I have painted and prepped with white resin which you will decorate during the last few hours of the workshop (after you have learned a few basic techniques and feel comfortable moving forward.

On hand to try out will be the blow dryers used to move the ink, giotto rocket, as well as an airbrush. and many colours of ink to sample! We will learn what products are available and where is the best place to purchase them. We will also learn how to seal projects when finished because alcohol ink can fade and be reactivated if left without a finish. NOTE: We will be using 99% isopropyl alcohol which does have a strong odor (VOC).

Pre-Order of wood LETTER OF THE ALPHABET/INITIAL is required by March 10th

All supplies necessary for this workshop are provided in the registration fee but if you have some of your own items that you want to bring to class, please do so. Gloves and aprons are provided. Refreshments such as coffee, tea, pop, water and assorted prepackaged treats like chocolate bars & chips are here for you but you can bring your own snacks and beverages if you prefer. The workshop is in the lower level studio so you will need to be able to traverse one flight of stairs with a handrail.

Preferred registration by etransfer to memoriesaremade@gmail.com or by using this ticket agent, Eventbrite.

Wood & Resin Lazy Susan Workshop

$90

This workshop is where you discover the FUN in FUNction.

Working with resin is amazing and the possibilities are endless - really! Each participant is given one 15" round solid wood lazy susan to create a beautiful coloured resin pour on. You will be given ample time and product to practice with prior to doing your final pour on your lazy susan so that alleviates the pressure of not being sure how things will go. Create cells, lacing and stunning colour variations with all the variety of supplies on hand. You will practice on a piece of wood cradle board beforehand and then when you feel comfortable, you will resin your piece. Opal Lantern March 8, 2025.jpg

Stunning Resin OPAL Workshop
March 8/25   11am-3pm
$90

Using various sizes of both manmade and natural crystals, coloured resin pigments, mica powder, glass gravel and shattered glass with reflective qualities, stunning german glass, metallic foils, and interference powders, you will be designing your magical geode-look-alike-fire opal lantern.

Each person will choose a metal lantern which has four glass doors that will be removed and transformed in to four separate geode pieces of art. There are a variety of lanterns available for you to choose from (white, aluminum, black, beige, red) and are medium sized (11" to 13" high). You can use one colour cohesively for all four panels or go wild and do each piece in a totally different colour pallett. You will have access to other decorative materials such as liquid silver chrome, liquid gold, shattered glass which can be coloured with alcohol inks, glass gravel and silver/gold/rose gold foil, mica powders & epoxy pigments and my new aurora flakes which are SO AMAZING. You will also be given an opportunity to do a practice glass panel before you actually start your lantern panels to try out your colour scheme and technique. We also have drawn templates for those who want a little inspiration in the design of their panels!

These lanterns look amazing when lit from within because you will be able to see through the designs on the glass which give you such a fantastic light show! So, if you wish, there will be battery operated lights for inside the lantern to purchase for a small additional fee.

Although all supplies are included in this class, if you have items you think you may want to incorporate into your design, you are encouraged to bring them along with you (ie: broken jewelry, stones, special memento, etc.)

No previous experience is necessary to participate in this workshop. Minimum age is 18 but if you are younger, pre-approval is possible and you will need to speak directly to the Creative Coach. Class size is limited.

***Please Note: Resin requires time to cure so lanterns can not be taken home with you; they will need to be picked up the next day or when it's convenient.

Dress comfortably in old clothing as we are working with resin; gloves and aprons are provided. The art Studio is in the lower level so one flight of stairs (with a bannister) are involved.

Refreshments such as coffee, tea, pop, water and pre-packaged treats like chocolate bars & chips are offered but if you want to bring your own beverage/snack, please do so.

Memorial Ashes feb. 825 (3).jpg

Memorial Ashes in Resin Workshop
Feb. 8/25   11am-3pm
$60

Throughout my years of offering resin workshops, I have been asked numerous times if I would offer a class so that others could use a loved ones ashes in a piece of resin.

The time has finally arrived that this is now a reality and I extend this workshop event to all those who are interested in pursuing this respectful journey with me of encapsulating ashes in a memento of lasting significance.

There will be a few different options available other than creating 4 pieces of jewelry complete with chains and small gift bags and a tasteful box for presentation.

We will be using UV resin to create our 4 finished jewelry pieces and you will have options for the size/shape/colour of bezels that you can use in your design. We have small lockets available as one of your choices. There will also be practice pieces made available to you and a product that resembles ashes for this purpose. After you feel comfortable with the process you can then proceed with your finished pieces as you will have the confidence of what the resin is like to work with.

There are a few larger pieces with angel wings that you trade up for if you decide you don't want to do pendants. These can be used as a keychain or small decorative hanging piece. We have small heart petrie dishes that can be used just for display with your loved one's ashes encased in resin or can be made into a ring holder. There is a limited supplyu of vintage inspired off white angel wings and/or a tiny display trays that can also be made available to trade or purchase. There are a few alphabet molds that you can use to make a letter of the alphabet (see sample below).

The beauty of this process is that YOU are creating these keepsakes and for a fraction of the cost of sending it to a stranger to make something for you. Having said that, I am the first to acknowledge that there are amazing artists who spend endless hours and money perfecting their process and offer incredible mementos that will not be offered here. These are specialists who have honed their skills and have the means to create pieces that are quite extra-ordinary. This workshop is for those who can't afford that process and/or want to do pieces themselves, respectfully and tastefully.

If you have a beloved pet's ashes, we do have some bezels that we could use for that as well and some silicone molds that are available.

No matter what you think of your creativity, everyone will make something beautiful during this workshop; but keep in mind that creating art is not about producing a product rather it's about enjoying and learning through the process of unexpected discoveries and perhaps a new friendship.

Gloves and aprons are provided. Refreshments such as coffee, tea, pop, water and assorted prepackaged treats are here for you but you can bring something of your own choice as well.

The Studio is in the lower level so you need to be able to go up and down one flight of stairs independently (with sturdy railing).

Preferred registration by etransfer to memoriesaremade@gmail.com or by using this ticket agent, Eventbrite.

If you have any questions, please contact the Creative Coach BerylAnne at 403.483.7270
